ONE REASON YOU HATE ICE BREAKERS…
Here’s one reason why you hate ice breakers… Many facilitators separate ice breakers from their content by picking a random activity and spending a short time getting people connected before starting with the content. This means that it often feels like 5 minutes of irrelevant, time wasting at the start of the session. In my experience it is far more engaging to integrate the ice breaker into the theme of the session by crafting an icebreaker that explores an entry level topic on the theme of the workshop. This makes the ice breaker more relevant and engaging and it becomes a crucial step in exploring the content itself while simultaneously building safety for progressively more honest conversations.
